Norlux Hospitality
At Martin's – Victoria
Bakery, restaurant and event space. Martin runs a varied business on the first floor of the venerable Hotel Victoria. Setting the right mood for all occasions requires good and flexible lighting solutions. See how we solved the task.
Hotel Victoria is located by the church park in Fredrikstad. The modernist brick building from 1938 is an important part of the city's history and identity. Norlux was engaged when the hotel got new owners in 2021. There was then a significant need for rehabilitation. The work started with hotel rooms on other floors before we started on the premises of Hos Martin.
The interior had to fit the expression of Hos Martin while maintaining the building's modernist style. There is a lot to consider with an old hotel. Some ceilings were replaced, others were preserved, and adjustments had to be made on site. We have had a good collaboration with Ørseng Interiørakitektur on this project.
When you walk through the door at Hos Martin, you are greeted by a serving counter for a bakery outlet and a dining area with a long table and bar stools. The copper Crux pendant above the long table provides a soft experience with warm light.
At the sofa groups along the windows we have used the Anton wall lamp with a classic design in black metal. On the ceiling we find track-mounted Zoom Mini spotlights. With Zoom Mini allows us to easily control the play of light and shadow. The light can be directed where you want, and the angle of the light beam can be adjusted from 5 to 60 degrees.
In the ceiling we also find the recessed spotlight Tania Mini Basic which, with its good adjustment options, also contributes to flexibility. We have also used the downlight Cold 5 . With its recessed light source, it creates Cold a sense of magic. You experience the light, but you don't see where it comes from.
At the serving counter, we use our popular Lobus store spotlight in a special version for baked goods. With the right color temperature, we bring out the glow in the baked goods and enhance the freshly baked experience. The serving counter is a focal point in the premises that ties the bakery outlet and the restaurant area together.
At Martin's, the concept is Danish food and baking, and that's dejlig to be a guest at Martin's. In the restaurant area there is a more subdued atmosphere where the Apiales ceiling lamp creates a pleasant atmosphere with its play of light in the ceiling niches.
Above the tables in the sofa corner we find Crux again which, with its copper colour, really stands out against the background of moss green tiles which are indirectly illuminated by LED strips . Together with Crux, LED -the stripes give a cozy and warm expression.
The banquet hall feels like a green oasis. There is a glass ceiling, green plants and sand-colored tiles. The Alva pendant lamp has a shade in natural textile. An opal light source spreads the light evenly across the entire shade, and the rust-red linen creates a great contrast against the green plants and walls.
Next to the pendant lights, tracks with spotlights are used. This makes the room flexible, so that it can be used for many different events and functions. At a height of four meters we have Zoom spotlight , which, in the winter months, replaces the natural daylight. At a height of three meters we have the not quite as powerful Zoom Mini spotlight .
Brown-stained wood is broken up by metal grilles which, with effective indirect lighting from LED strips , create atmosphere and warmth in the room.
Behind the banquet hall we find the venue's Chambre Séparée – a separate meeting or dining room. The room's lighting is experienced as exclusive, warm and exciting. Tracks with Tania Mini Spotlights as basic lighting ensure the correct lux in the room while they can be positioned against walls and details we want to highlight. The room has an entire wall with perforated copper plates that are lit by LED strips at the top and bottom. Above the table we have chosen the atmospheric Ombro pendant lamp. Perforated metal covering ensures that Ombro provides minimal glare, while at the same time we have an interaction with the perforated wall plates.
In the toilets we have used Artemides Dioscuri wall mounted. Low ceiling height meant that the choice fell on low-profile LED panels . Mounted in a black frame , LED The panels have a more decorative feel, and by placing them next to each other, an illusion of more ceiling height is created.
The lighting in the premises is controlled wirelessly via app. We have chosen a cost-effective solution with the Casambi control system. After setup and programming by us, the operator can easily control the lighting. The app is intuitive to use and requires minimal training. It is also free, and access to the system is secured with a password.
