Universeum

Norlux supplies lighting for galleries and museums. See how we lit the exhibition Humans at Universeum in Gothenburg.

Norlux received a somewhat unusual assignment from a client: On behalf of Space Productions, to light the exhibition “Humans” at Universeum. Task description: “Create a complete lighting setup with comfortable levels, minimal glare/shadowing/reflection in screens, etc. and focus on informative elements.”

The exhibition is made up of several interactive and informative elements where the focus is on the visitor’s own participation and information search. The visitor is activated to learn through play and interaction.

Our unique Zoom Spotlight was the natural choice as its versatility solves all tasks for this type of assignment that requires high flexibility, has low glare and can handle an installation height of over four meters. The ability to zoom in 6-60° and frame individual objects, or to be able to cover large text sections in the exhibition was absolutely crucial for the choice of Zoom.

To put the best suited light on the different object, we used two color temperatures; 2700K to highlight warm colors and the more neutral 3000K to highlight the white and cooler objects. To give a brilliant example: A red “lifeline” runs through the entire exhibition with several red dots distributed along the way. These contain small white information texts, which were absolutely perfect for our Zoom spot to frame and illuminate without much diffused light spill.

We used Zoom spot as both accent and general lighting with great success. In general, we focused on putting the right light on the right subject with minimal or low general lighting. In addition to the assignment, we aimed to create a lighting experience that not only illuminates the object itself, but also highlights the exhibition’s message and history, and enhances the visitor’s overall experience.

With the ability to illuminate both small and large objects in one spotlight, Zoom became a success story in this assignment and the client was very happy with the end result.
